Brown Cloudy Pond Water

Brown cloudy pond water. Cloudy pond water is an issue that can really frustrate the most diligent pond owners. Many chemicals used in the pond can loose the soil. Brown pond water is the result of a tannin buildup. So long as the pump is working fine without any reduced water flow the batting is fine.
I tell my clients time and time again to keep in mind that every pond is different and dynamic in its own unique way. Cloudy water makes it hard to see your fish or enjoy the clear pristine water that we all dream of. Brown pond water looks unpleasant. Therefore making it clear again is a must for you as a pond owner.
Why pond water turns brown. It s caused by one of two reasons. Cloudy water can be a bit of a nuisance for us pond owners making it more difficult to see fish and giving the water an unpleasant muddy appearance. Erosion on the bank of the river soils causes this scenario.
Tea colored water is something that happens sooner or later to most outdoor koi ponds. Sooner or later almost every pond owner will encounter brown or green water in their pond and for those experiencing it for the first time it can be quite distressing. But know the water is very clear when you dip out a glass of water but to look at the pond it is light brown and cloudy. In some ponds or water features the end of summer or beginning of fall brings with it this discolored water.
When leaves or pine needles fall into your pond the tannins in them create a type of all natural debris tea which turns the clean and clear water in your backyard. Whilst cloudy water is unlikely to affect the well being of your fish or plants it is an eye sore and can effect enjoyment of your pond. Cloudy water is caused by tiny particle of waste suspended in your pond s water. My pond was built in the winter of 2015 and until know has not given me any trouble.
The quilt batting will gradually turn green brown as it collects up the gunk from the pond water. Soil erosion is another reason for pond water to go cloudy and murky. There s only one thing worse than green water and that s brown water. Most of the time a clouded pond is only a temporary issue but it can also be accompanied by other problems such as algae growth or be a symptom of a growing chemical imbalance.
When it becomes obviously saturated in gunk and or the flow from the output hose is weaker it s time to change the batting. Pond water can be brown for many reasons chemical biological etc. It is also unsuitable for the fish living in it. Like many pond problems you have to understand and address the cause of the problem to get to the soluti.
This is when your pond is clear not cloudy but the water has a distinct dark tinge to it usually a brown or orange color.
